What is raw food diet?

Raw food diet is basically eating something without cooking which means it will include some vegetables, fruits and nuts. Some people even consume raw eggs, fish and meat. People who follow this diet mostly believe that cooking food for a long period of time can destroy important nutrients and minerals. Which is true, some nutrients do vanish when slow-cooked or boiled.

Overcooking also adds in unhealthy elements in your diet which might include excessive use of oil, salt. So people think to get the proper benefit of the food one must consume it raw, which is a healthy choice only if you maintain the balance. When you avoid cooking food you miss on many food options along with you also miss on many important nutrients.

Does it help in weight loss?

Yes, a raw diet would help you lose weight initially as there is no salt, sugar or oil consumed but it is not a sustainable diet plan and can’t be followed for a long time.

The raw diet also leaves you with very fewer options to eat and you have only fresh fruits and vegetables as an option which makes it a healthier diet and helps in losing weight.

However, not being able to consume chicken and fish and other food that requires cooking will deprive you of essential nutrients, vitamins, protein and calcium which can be found only in these products.

Therefore, it’s not an ideal choice to go on a raw food diet. However, you can choose to cook food for less amount of time. Also, use oils that are healthy for your health like mustard oil, olive oil etc. Limit the use of oil and sugar in your food. If you still want to try the raw food diet choose to do it for one week in a month or one day a week.
