What is patience?

According to Wikipedia, the definition of patience is “the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties.” In short, patience means your ability to tolerate delay in achieving something or getting things done. It’s how much you stay calm and peaceful when things get tough and how well you handle things while still being calm.

Following habits will help you be more patient.

· Counteract your triggers

Impatience is an act that comes out when triggered. Therefore, understand what your trigger is. What is that thing that acts as a catalyst to make you lose your patience? Once you understand your triggers, you can act on it. Understanding your trigger means finding out why a particular statement hurts you, what are the hidden insecurities behind it. Once you find it out it will become easier for you to counteract on your triggers and thus you won’t lose your patience while staying calm and peaceful.

· Release stress and tension from time to time

Most of the time, impatience is the result of tension that has been piled up for a while. When you don’t let out your stress, anger and tension it will definitely pile up and burst out sometime. When you can’t or don’t react to negativity, you absorb the negative energy and energy is never destroyed it can only be converted. So, if you don’t let your energy out from time to time you’ll let it out at the wrong time and come out as an impatient personality.

· Cut off from toxic people

Sometimes the reason behind your impatience is not you but the toxic people around you. There are people who might frustrate you at a point that you have to burst it all out. However, to deal with such people you require a lot of patience. People who are stupid, people who act dumb or people who purposely want to affect your peace of mind are the ones who should be dealt with patience and if you find it difficult to stay sane around such people cut off the ties with such people.
