We all desire smooth, supple, and lustrous skin every time we look in the mirror. Collagen, a protein that is abundant in our bodies, helps to preserve the flexibility of our skin. However, as we age, the amount of collagen that our bodies can naturally make decreases, and as a result, we get fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Utkarsha Chawdhary, a Boddess beauty and training professional, provided the following skincare guidance to boost collagen:
1. Eating well and getting enough sleep – Prior to starting any skin care program, it is essential to focus on beauty sleep. By obtaining a restful 7 hours of sleep and nourishing yourself with meals high in Omega 3s and Vitamin C, you can bring back that glow and bounce to your skin.
2. A retinoid and peptide-rich overnight skincare regimen – In the end, you must feed your skin a meal rich in protein. The two ingredients in skincare products that serve as the amino acid building blocks of your skin are retinol, a vitamin A derivative, and peptides. Your evening skincare regimen needs to include retinol or peptide-infused night cream and serum.
3. Strong antioxidants like vitamin C protect collagen production against pollution and ultraviolet rays. Early in the morning vitamin C serum application will protect the collagen protein currently present in your skin and encourage the production of new collagen.
4. Apply sunscreen twice a day. Sunscreen is important, but consistently applying it is much more important. Sun exposure often causes your collagen to break down. Every three hours, reapply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to your skin.
