The healthy, sweet, and nutritious honey is indeed safe to consume during pregnancy. However, it should be pasteurized and come from government certified authorities. Pasteurized honey is important during pregnancy because it kills the diseases which cause bacteria as they are harmful to your unborn baby and you.

Also, the main concern of raw honey is that it can lead to botulism. This condition only affects babies less than a year old since their digestive system is still immature. It is rare for pregnant women to experience colonization botulism because the gastrointestinal system in adults has bacteria that prevents the botulinum toxin.

Honey is considered to be beneficial during pregnancy because it has some therapeutic properties.

A pregnant woman can treat an acute cough at home by mixing honey with ginger or lemon as it has antiviral properties. The viral activity in the body is inhibited by the honey which provides immediate relief from cough.
A pregnant lady should, however, consume honey in moderation as an excess of it can have side effects like other food.
