7 things you should know when you get pregnant

Pregnancy is not easy, it comes with lots of pressure, happiness and responsibility. As a mother, you have to take care of your body so that you don’t harm your child. There are lots of hormonal changes you’ll be going through, the discomfort caused during pregnancy and the labour pain during delivery is a lot to handle but when you finally see the face of your baby every pain, discomfort just vanishes and you are already in love with the relation you are going to share with your baby. Below are seven things you must remember when you get pregnant.

1. Once you confirm your pregnancy, it is important to visit your doctor regularly. Choose the best gynecologist and never skip monthly check-ups. It helps to know the health of mother and baby. Every checkup is important as a few complications, if any, could show only at the later pregnancy stages. The sooner you find, the quicker you can go for treatment.

2. Some women bleed in the initial stages of pregnancy, creating confusion if it is menstrual bleeding. The best way to recognize it is from its colour. It is often in brown or pink colour in contrast to the usual red colour of the menstrual blood.

3. Your everyday exercise routine ensures the smooth functioning of your body. Childbirth is a laborious process that demands a lot of energy. Only a healthy body can withstand the various stages of labour. Exercise makes sure you are healthy and strong when done right exercise shows the effect on a baby’s entire development system.

4. Pregnancy is not easy, Activities such as standing or sitting for long durations that you could indulge in earlier, now you may find them too difficult to do. Issues such as constipation and vomiting could drain your energy. Eating healthy and resting enough can help you reduce the discomforts.

5. Fluid retention would be one big issue. Your legs will be swollen and also your hands and face due to fluid retention. Try sleeping with your feet elevated and make sure to drink more water. Avoid long hours of standing, wear comfortable shoes, etc.

6. Your voice would be the best thing your baby hears when she/ he is in the womb. Tell stories and sing songs. There are studies that have shown that baby can hear their mothers and thus it’s important that you u talk to them ever since they are in your womb.

7. You may have strange mood swings. You can expect anger, sadness, and fear. It doesn’t mean you are mad, it is just your hormones at play.
