Failing to keep your skin moisturised can result in dry skin. This occurs due to use of harsh bath soaps, bathing frequently, aging and also due to underlying medical conditions. In cold climates it is normal due to the cold and dry winter air. Therefore you need to moisturise your skin from time to time.

Here are some tips to always stay moisturised.

1. Keep your showers short

Shower for only 5 to 10 minutes daily because bathing for more than that can take away all the skin’s oily layer resulting in dry skin. Hot water removes away all the natural oils, therefore, it is better to use lukewarm water.

2. Minimise your use of soap

Opt for soap free cleansers if you want to keep your skin moisturised. Deodorant soaps, perfumed soaps and alcohol products are capable of stripping away natural oils. Additionally, also avoid fabric softeners and fragrance-free laundry detergents.

3. Be gentle to your skin

Take proper care of your skin by keeping your distance from bath sponges, scrub brushes and rough washcloths. While towelling your skin dry and make sure to pat or blot the skin instead of rubbing it.

4. Use moisturiser with hydrating ingredients

No matter what skin type you have, it is important to moisturise your skin with hydrating ingredients. Go for the moisturiser which has hyaluronic acid as it has hydrating agents.

5. Use a humidifier in winter

Use a humidifier during winter and set it on 60% which is sufficient enough to moisturise your skin.
