In recent years, hookup culture is becoming predominant. It encourages causal sex which includes one-night stands and other activities without emotional intimacy, attachment or any form of relationship.

The course of relationships has changed over the years. That is, for many individuals a relationship happens when they meet someone, hookup with them, if it gets exciting they continue to hookup and later on when they feel attached emotionally they start a relationship.

Hooking up is considered a thrill because it is an opportunity to get acquainted with a random person and to know his/her likes and dislikes before commencing a relationship. It also makes people more compatible with their sexual selves and they become confident as potential partners.

Even though random hookups can feel thrill-filled with positive feelings yet they are dangerous. Health experts believe that random hookups do more harm than good. It leads to negative outcomes such as negligence of emotional and psychological needs, sexual violence, risky sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies.

Multiple studies show that college students who have engaged in casual sex face have self-esteem issues and they are not satisfied in life. Such students also face mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.

Hookups with strangers have become a self-blame and shame game. It makes you feel confused and used which in turn leads to the feeling of emptiness. Although it might feel adventurous, disappointments tend to overpower those feelings.
