Mahender Singh Dhoni, the best Indian cricketer was born on July 7th, 1981 in Ranchi Jharkhand.

He came from a typical household where his father, Pan Singh worked for MECON and mother Devki Devi a housewife and as a student he had a keen interest in football and badminton.

Dhoni was a goalkeeper of his football team that played at district and state level but as suggested by his coach, he tried his luck for cricket. He was accepted into Commando Cricket Club after giving a good performance in wicket keeping. He played from 1995-98.

Later he was selected to Bihar U-19 and with improved batting, he got entry into the Bihar Ranji Trophy Squad for the year 1999-2000.

Dhoni made his first debut by scoring an unbeaten score 68 against Assam and in the next season he secured his first century.

After getting selected to the India A team in 2003, the team went to tour Kenya to play a tri-series tournament with Pakistan A where he gave an excellent performance.

In the debut of his ODI match with Pakistan, he was called a match winning player in Indian squad. In 2005, he won the ‘Match of that Series’ award for scoring 346 runs in the tournament.

Dhoni was the most successful captain that India ever had. He had led the Indian Cricket team to win the World Cup T20 in South Africa.

He stepped down as a captain to give younger players a chance to lead with better decisions. He is one of the successful Indian captains in the history of sports.
