The greatest cricketer from India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He hailed from a regular family where his mother Devki Devi was a homemaker and his father Pan Singh worked for MECON. When he was a student, he was quite interested in football and badminton. Dhoni played goalkeeper for his football team, which competed at the district and state levels, but he also tried his hand at cricket at his coach’s suggestion. After performing well in wicket keeping, he was admitted into the Commando Cricket Club. He performed from 1995 to 1998. He was later chosen for the Bihar U-19 team, and because of his improved batting, he was included in the team for the 1999–2000 Bihar Ranji Trophy.

Dhoni made his debut against Assam with an undefeated score of 68, and the following year, he achieved his first century. In 2003, after being chosen for the India A team, the group traveled to Kenya to compete in a tri-series competition alongside Pakistan A, where he performed superbly. He was referred to as an Indian teammate who could win matches in his first ODI encounter against Pakistan. He scored 346 runs during the competition, earning him the “Match of that Series” award in 2005. The most effective captain India has ever had is Dhoni. In South Africa, he coached the Indian cricket side to victory in the T20 World Cup. To allow younger players a chance to lead with wiser choices, he resigned as captain. He is one of the most accomplished Indian captains in sports history.
