Although, gymnasium and calisthenics might seem to be overlapping each other, there is a difference between them. Both these are a type of strength training but the form of resistance each uses is different. Their ultimate motive is fitness.

Calisthenics involves workout or exercise with minimal to no use of any equipment. There is not much requirement of weighted equipment because they workout with the help of their body weight.

It normally includes exercises such as pull ups, pushups, lunges, crunches and squats. It is cost effective as it is done without any equipment. Calisthenics improves your coordination level, flexibility, balance and endurance of the body.

Gymnasium uses a variety of gym equipment as a resistance. It builds your muscles through continuous weightlifting. The weightlifting moves adopted are shoulder presses, bicep curls, triceps extensions, bench presses and leg presses.

Unlike calisthenics, they are preferred for rapid progress and makes the workout harder with the use of dumbbells.

If you are looking to build up your strength then gymnasium is the right choice for you because use of weights functions in overloading a muscle group which results in muscle growth and strength.

Calisthenics doesn’t really make you strong, although with proper techniques you can improve your muscle size and strength.

It is considered that calisthenics is much better for aiding weight loss as it burns down calories. This is so due to the use of body movements.

It is used in training like high intensity interval training or circuit training.
