From the moment a child is born, it taught to chase happiness. We introduce toys, sweet treats and other things we get for them for the sake of keeping them from crying. People who obsessively pursue happiness end up getting disappointment which leads to a chaotic mind. Happiness is never satisfied. You can try to be richer than the richest man in the world and still not achieve complete happiness. There is nothing wrong with being happy. But it doesn’t have to come from something you exhausted yourself to achieve. It must be self-produced. It is harmful to depend on external sources to achieve happiness. It makes you vulnerable or more prone to get disappointed and feel depressed if your expectations are not met.

But what can you do if not pursuing happiness? Is there any alternative to happiness? The answer is yes. Try opting for peace instead of happiness. The world is full of things that will make your life harder and difficult to survive. However, unlike happiness that fades away during a difficult situation, peace doesn’t leave you. Peace helps you take control of the situation and not panic. With a calm mind and peaceful thoughts, you can deal with any situation whatsoever. The efforts required to achieve peace of mind may not be different from what you put in to get happiness. But when happiness lasts just for a particular time or phase of your life, peace can everlasting.

It is not our mistake that we bend towards happiness instead of peace because society teaches us to do so. We see it in the movies how actors and actresses make it look easy to be happy and satisfied at the end but that is not how it works in the real life. You will be told that it is not traditional to follow the path of peace, but when you are fully prepared to choose peace, when you finally do it you will thank yourself for choosing this path.
