Does Being Positive Hurt You: Know How To Deal With It

It is not easy to turn off your negativity switch and just be positive, especially if you are struggling with challenging situations such as depression, heartbreak, or self-doubts. If you are going to pretend to be positive, it is not going to work.

It would only create confusion and disconnectedness. It would distract you from things that you should be doing to make yourself feel better. Rather than putting aside your difficult feelings and putting up an upbeat front, here are some ways to help you deal with them.

1. Be okay with the things that make you sad and do ask for help

Life is not always candies, roses, and rainbows. It can feel like crap as well and it is totally okay to feel that way. It is not about wallowing in self-indulgent pity indefinitely but it is about being present in the emotions and respecting it. Give yourself some time to experience it.

The negative emotions that you experience are just as important as the positive ones as they help you cope up with the ups and downs of life.

2. Embrace self-compassion and make it a part of your life

When you feel low or lack positivity, show yourself some compassion. You do not need to put up a façade of a cheerleader. Instead, be understanding and kind towards yourself. Learn to nurture yourself.

3. Work on tiny steps that you can take every day

Find out what steps you need to take to make yourself feel better. It could be anything such as meditating before bed or sharing your struggling feelings with your partner. It is always better to work on overcoming the struggling feeling if being positive hurts.
