Revenge Bedtime Procrastination: Know What It Means

Do you feel too busy throughout the day that you don’t find enough daytime hours to do the tasks you really want to complete? And then you try to fix it by staying up late at night by sacrificing your sleep to get the task done? There is a term for this. Revenge bedtime procrastination. This refers to the decision to forego sleep in exchange for leisure time, which is motivated by a shortage of free time in one’s daily schedule.

Revenge bedtime procrastination is a means for those with high-stress occupations that take up the majority of their day to find a few hours of amusement, even if it ends in poor sleep.

The inclusion of the word “revenge” to the concept of bedtime procrastination became popular. The term “revenge bedtime procrastination” was coined as a translation of a Chinese expression expressing revenge against the lengthy, demanding work hours that left little time for personal pleasures, as per sleep foundation reports.

Cause

Many individuals don’t have much time to do things for pleasure or delight between work, errands, cooking, checking in on friends, raising children, walking the dog, and all of life’s other necessary responsibilities. This is one of the primary reasons for revenge bedtime procrastination.

Procrastinators may be more prone to revenge bedtime procrastination.

Consequences

Sleep deprivation can result from revenge bedtime procrastinating. The mind and body can’t recharge properly if they don’t get enough sleep, which can lead to a variety of health problems.

Sleep deprivation affects one’s ability to think, remember, and make decisions. Daytime sleepiness is also increased by sleep loss, which can affect productivity and academic achievement while also increasing the danger of sleepy driving.

Irritability and other problems with emotion regulation are linked to a lack of sleep. It’s also been linked to mental health issues like anxiety and sadness.
