5 Bollywood Films That Inspire Women To Break Sexist Rules & Pursue Their Dreams

1. Wake Up Sid

Konkona Sen Sharma plays a writer who relocates to Bombay to pursue her career in the film. She meets friends, settles into her new home, and falls in love in the process. The movie depicts her acclimating to the City of Dreams and eventually finding her place within it. Wake Up Sid can be a source of inspiration for you if you’re intending to move out of your parents’ house or have recently begun living alone.

2. English Vinglish

The film, which starred the late Sridevi in the lead role, was about a home-based entrepreneur named Sashi who decides to learn English when she visits her sister in New York. While navigating her way through a strange city, she learns about the culture, meets friends, and feels powerful in the process. Indian women are frequently made to feel inferior to males, and this film does an excellent job of encouraging every woman to take the first step in standing up for herself.

3. The Dirty Picture

Women are stigmatized in our society for their sexuality, whereas males are praised for it. The Dirty Picture, starring Vidya Balan, is based on the life of late South Indian actor Silk Smitha. The film is about a woman who uses her sex appeal to become famous. She remains unapologetic to the end, despite her colleagues and other men in the profession slut-shaming her. It’s one of those films that reminds women that they are totally responsible for their bodies and should not be embarrassed by them.

4. Lipstick Under My Burkha

The film’s ensemble cast included Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Plabita Borthakur, and Aahana Kumra, and was directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. The film was set in Bhopal and centered on four ladies and their personal issues. The stories depict various aspects of Indian women’s lives and problems, ranging from an elderly woman coming to grips with her sexual urges to a young college-bound woman attempting to fit in.
