A healthy relationship is not everyone’s cup of tea, especially in a new relationship. At first, everything seems to be running smoothly, but there comes a time when a dispute arises in a relationship. It is well and good if things are sorted out without any problem. But if you or your partner is still not sure about your feelings, will taking a break help?  Well, Ross and Rachel from the popular TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S, definitely gave us an idea of what relationship break means, but it still turned their relationship upside down. The reason behind it is that there were no terms set to the break they took.

There is more to taking a relationship break than just temporarily putting your relationship on hold. Be sure that you and your partner both agree with taking a break. If you feel it is necessary to take a break, talk it out with your partner. Don’t decide it yourself and then impart it on your partner. It will look like you are just trying to get rid of him/her. Make them understand how taking a break can solve your problems and stop the constant fighting. Before you take a break, talk about the preconditions and specifications of the break. Whether you remain in touch or not, whether you see other people or not, whether you disclose this to your friends or not, and many other aspects you think are suitable with the nature of your problems, should be discussed beforehand.

After you commence your break, make sure you don’t violate the terms of your break. This is not freedom from your old relationship to do whatever you wished to do while in a relationship. It’s just a temporary interval to work on your feelings. If you miss your partner, text them. Ask them about their day and if they are doing okay, but suppress your feelings. Don’t be all desperate to be together again the very next day or two. After a satisfactory amount of time has passed, you will be sure whether to continue with your relationship or not. If both the individuals have strictly followed the rules of your relationship break, you will be able to leave that constant arguing and fighting behind you and resume a happy relationship.
