6 Things A Toxic Relationship Teaches About Love

Every relationship has something to teach us, but toxic relationships provide the most difficult and important lessons. Here are a few examples.

1. YOU LEARN TO SEE SIGNS OF TROUBLE SOON

You not only see red signals sooner, but you also refuse to dismiss them. The issue with many new relationships is that we are prepared to overlook obvious red signs, dismissing them as unimportant or something we can “fix” later.

2. YOU LEARN TO PAY ATTENTION TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Although your loved ones may not like every single person you date since they’re not involved in the relationship, they can see who is a bad apple much more clearly than you can. You become more willing to listen to them after a poisonous relationship, one in which your friends and relatives most likely gave you their two cents. You discover they can see things you can’t, and instead of being annoyed, you become appreciative of it.

3. YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR WORTH

Toxic relationships can take many forms, ranging from physically abusive to intellectually and emotionally abusive, and everything in between. Whatever form of toxicity you are dealing with, your self-esteem and self-worth will suffer as your partner tries to keep you down. However, once you’re on the other side of a toxic relationship, you realize how much you’re worth, and it’s a lot more than how you’ve been treated.

4. YOU LEARN TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELF

Standing up for yourself, pushing back, and leaving a toxic relationship is the only way to get out of it. A toxic relationship can educate people who have never been able to stand up for themselves how to do so, as well as how to no longer tolerate the lies, manipulation, and Nonsense and instead fight back and get the heck out.

5. YOU LEARN TO PRIORITIZE YOURSELF

Even if you’re in a relationship, putting yourself first is not selfish. You’re more likely to be in sync with your relationship and perceive it for what it is when you put yourself first and practice a healthy level of self-care.

6. YOU LEARN TO DEFINE LINES

You can better protect yourself if you understand the importance of having boundaries. Boundaries are frequently overstepped and ignored in toxic relationships. You can continue to guard yourself against sliding down another harmful rabbit hole if you learn to set limits early on and stick to them.
