Every school has a practical session for science, computer or IT lectures. The idea behind taking these practicals sessions is to allow students to experience the theories and practice it on their own. Science is a vast field of study. Only teaching theories and formulas in the classroom will not be helpful. Students must see practically how every theorem works for better understanding. If you read a sentence once you will hardly remember it after some time. But if you see a particular process with your own eyes that will be stored in the permanent memories of your brain.
This is the reason all engineering colleges have labs and workshops for students to perform practical. Additionally, performing a practical is way too much fun than sitting in a boring classroom. The purpose of industrial visits and field trip is not for us to have a picnic, but to understand how an industry works and grasp as much knowledge as we can before graduating and working in the same industry someday. It is now also compulsory for an engineer to have gone through at least 2 internships between all his semesters. The only reason behind it is to allow the students to collect as much work experience as they can. The movie ‘3 Idiots’ has portrayed the same throughout the movie. An engineer who knows all the practical applications of what he learned and another who just excelled in mugging up. The one with practical knowledge becomes the employer of the other!!
You can never learn to drive unless you practice it. You cannot do so just by reading manuals. Even if you are the one who manufactured the car, you still need to practice. This is the importance of practical learning. This is why our teachers nag us to attend all the practicals. Maintain a balance between theoretical and practical learning. Do not depend solely on theory.
