Ways To Use Slippery Elm For Constipation

The inner bark of the elm tree forms a slippery elm which is a herbal remedy. This slippery elm has multiple health benefits. It works in healing the digestive distress and symptoms of psoriasis. It contains stress and anxiety soothing properties.

It is highly beneficial for constipation, stomach ulcers, and skin conditions. The production of mucus secretion that it promotes is useful for treating intestinal and stomach problems.

This powerful medicinal herb is packed with antioxidant agents and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium as well as vitamin C and vitamin B. The slippery elm bark is often dried and powdered, and it comes in many forms such as tablets, lozenges, coarse powder for making a poultice, fine powder for making teas and extracts.

How to use slippery elm?

The mucilage present in slippery elm encourages bowel movement. A little amount of slippery elm is mixed with water and the slurry is consumed to treat digestive problems. If you are consuming it with tea, on 2 tbsp of the powder pour 2 cups of boiling water and let it soak in for few minutes.

For a poultice, to apply on the skin all you need to do is to blend the coarse powder with the boiling water and let it cool down. Then apply the paste of poultice on the affected area. Always consult a doctor before taking any supplements and read the product labels. It is highly recommended for people to consume it by mouth for safety reasons.
