You can eat a healthy diet for the most part throughout your pregnancy, however, you may need to consume a little more during the second and third trimesters since the growing baby requires more nutrition. However, there are certain foods you should avoid when pregnant since they might cause illness or injury to the foetus. 1. Soft cheese and unpasteurized milk should be avoided

Calcium is abundant in milk and cheese, which you and your children require. Raw milk and soft cheeses, on the other hand, may contain bacteria that might make you and your baby sick. Food poisoning bacteria such as E. coli, Campylobacter, Listeria, and Salmonella can be found in raw milk. Because pregnancy alters your immune system, you’re more prone to get sick when pregnant.

2. Raw Sprouts, Raw Eggs, and Undercooked Meats Should Not Be Consumed

Bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella can be found in raw foods. Meats should be cooked to the right internal temperature, while eggs and sprouts should be properly cooked. Make your salads at home instead of going to the grocery store salad bar.

3. Don’t Consume Alcohol

Because there isn’t yet a safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, it’s recommended to avoid wine, beer, and liquor altogether.

4. Avoid Undercooked Fish & Fish With High Mercury

Fish, particularly oily ocean fish such as salmon, is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which your baby requires for normal development, particularly during the third trimester. However, when it comes to fish, you must exercise caution. It’s advised to avoid raw and undercooked fish and seafood (including sushi) when you’re pregnant because they may carry parasites and bacteria.

Because some species contain higher levels of mercury, you should avoid sharks, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish.
