You can make garlic bread nearly entirely from scratch in 5 minutes using the power of your toaster. Although it isn’t garlic bread like you’d find in a restaurant, it is nonetheless tasty and will sate your garlic desires.

This recipe for quick and simple garlic bread is ideal for my yearning for garlic. With the same amount of work, you can scale the dish up to feed three, four, or even six people.

Peel the garlic cloves. Squeeze the garlic cloves through a garlic press. Scrape off all of the garlic that has been pressed and place in a bowl that can be heated in the microwave. Add the butter to the bowl with the garlic. Heat the butter in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir the garlic into the melting butter. To prevent the butter from splattering in your microwave, place a paper towel over the bowl. Toast your bread in the toaster while the butter cools down. Reheat the butter for 30 seconds on high.

Chop the cilantro up fine in the meanwhile. Enjoy your 5-minute garlic bread by adding the cilantro to the garlic butter and spreading it with a spatula on the toast. If you’re skipping the cilantro, go directly to step 10.

This garlic butter method is not limited to garlic bread; it can be used on a variety of dishes. For instance, popcorn, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli all benefit from the addition of this garlic butter.
