Ever experienced neck pain or back pain while working in front of computers for a long period? Ever noticed the discomfort we feel when we stand for too long in a queue? The reason behind all these discomforts is bad posture. Posture is a position in which we hold ourselves while standing or sitting. It may differ from person to person depending on their body structure. But what is the ideal posture to be maintained to feel zero discomforts?   Let us explore all the aspects where we have to maintain proper posture: –

Standing – Support yourself and your body weight primarily on the balls of your feet. Make a convex between your knee joints. Keep your legs wide apart and relaxed. Do not lean, stand straight. Keep your shoulders pulled behind. Pop your belly inwards. Maintain your head on a straight fixed position. Do not move your head forward or backwards. Keep switching between the legs if you have to stand up for a long time.

Sitting – Rest your feet properly on the floor or use a footrest if you fall short. Don’t overlap your legs. Your ankles should be ahead of your knees. Make a right angle between your legs and thighs. Do not take external support and rest the knees above your waist level. You a chair with linear backrest. Keep your elbows close. Do not continue to sit for a long time, take intervals and go on a short walk.

Sleeping – Firstly choose a comfortable mattress. some people prefer a firm mattress while some find a soft mattress to be relaxing. Your comfort is what matters. Use a pillow that is specially designed for pastoral problems in sleeping. Do not sleep on your stomach surface. Prefer sleeping on sides as comfortable for you. If you sleep on the backside, place a pillow under your legs.

Follow these ideas and work on improving your posture. A poor posture can put your postural muscles through a tremendous amount of stress and cause severe aching. Bad posture can affect us in our old age. So start taking care of it now!!
