How To Avoid Computer Eye Strain?

Eye strain is a frequent condition that occurs when your eyes are overused heavily, such as when reading or driving long distances. Extensive use of computers or other digital devices, such as cell phones or iPads, has been the leading cause in recent years. Digital eye strain is the term for this form of eye strain.

Although eye strain might be unpleasant, it is usually not a serious condition. Eye strain can be reduced or prevented in a variety of ways.

Here are a few tips on how to avoid Eye Strain caused by computer:

1. Blink frequently to keep your eyes fresh

When working at a computer, many people blink less than usual, which can cause dry eyes. Blinking causes tears to form in your eyes, which moisturise and refresh them. When looking at a computer screen, make it a habit to blink more frequently.

2. Take some time to rest your eyes

Give your eyes a break by gazing away from your monitor throughout the day. Try the 20-20-20 rule: stare at anything 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

3. Make the necessary adjustments to your monitor

Place your monitor approximately an arm’s length in front of you, so that the top of the screen is at or slightly below eye level. It also helps to have a chair that can be adjusted.

4. Make changes to your screen’s settings

To make reading easier, enlarge the type. Also, set the contrast and brightness to a level that is suitable for your eyes.

5. Time spent in front of the screen should be limited

This is particularly important for children, who may not recognise the link between prolonged gazing, eyestrain, and the need to rest their eyes on a regular basis.
