“Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating it for everything that it is.” ~Mandy Hale

As we become older, we envision and dream about the life we want. Expectations have been set and in abundance. The reality, on the other hand, isn’t always accurate. Things happen that don’t match the imagined life in our heads. Life takes its twists and turns and shifts directions to construct new paths for us. Some of these turn out to be good, while others don’t. When this occurs, we are disappointed that life is not unfolding as we had hoped for it too.

So, what do you do when you realize your life isn’t what you imagined it to be?

It’s alright to be sad about the life you had envisioned for yourself. We’ve all been in situations that aren’t ideal in our lives. Many things occur in your life that you never imagined or desired. It might be difficult to let go of the life we believe we should be living. However, it’s perfectly acceptable to feel the loss of the life you desired.

When life doesn’t happen as we planned for it, we feel sad and struggle to battle with the curveballs of life. We assume that everything will go downhill from then on and tomorrow will bring just as much pain and disappointment. However, it’s not healthy to have these feelings on a long-term basis.

Acceptance is important. We must accept that reality is indeed different from what we expected it to be. And when we accept it fully, we will be able to be happy in the life that we have. Unless and until we don’t accept it, it will affect our happiness. It is only when we fully accept and let go of the life we imagined, we will make the most of the life that we are gifted with.

Enjoy your life as it is right now, including the flaws. We only have one life, after all. We only have one chance to make our lives worthwhile.
