5 Things To Do When You Feel Irritated

We all experience irritability, but what distinguishes it from other emotional states is the amount to which it pollutes the emotional environment around us. . A single person’s irritated mood can spread negativity and stress-inducing emotions throughout the business, home, or classroom.

Here are 5 tips that can help you when you feel irritated:

1. Find the source of the problem

Finding out what makes you irritated and then addressing it is the simplest strategy to reduce irritability. Determine when you first got irritated and what may have triggered your irritability. It’s crucial to keep in mind that, while your reactions may appear complex at the time, the issue that sparked them may be straightforward.

2. Connect with your heart

Compassion for yourself can be a strong tool for calming your raging emotions. Recognize (in your brain) how irritable you are and how uncomfortable it is. Consider receiving a hug from someone who genuinely cares about you. When you’re feeling a little better, think about how it’s made those around you feel.

3. Get rid of your negative energy

Because irritability activates our fight-or-flight response systems, it’s a good idea to go for a fast walk or run, or if that’s not possible, do some quick push-ups or crunches to burn off any excess energy that’s contributing to your irritability.

4. Get some Me-time

Find a quiet spot to think things over or to get away from the noise and activity around you. Irritability may be your mind’s way of signalling that you need to take a break, so do so. Enjoy music, stretch or practise yoga, meditate, or relax in a bubble bath.

5. Gum chewing

Chewing gum can be a quick way to release tension, which can help you feel less irritable. Chewing gum made people feel less worried and stressed, according to a study. It also helped them concentrate and pay attention.

So reach for a piece of gum the next time you’re feeling irritable. You might notice that it makes you feel a little calmer and happy.
