1. ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE RIGHT NOW FEELING THIS WAY

Acceptance is the first step in dealing with this emotion. That may sound strange, but consider this: you already have to deal with all of your problems. Why would you fight your feelings on top of that? It’s just another drain on your limited resources. It’s fine to be annoyed. It’s simply an indicator that something needs to change. This leads to my second point.

2. BE AWARE THAT THIS IS ONLY PERMANENT

It’s difficult to see things getting back to normal when you’re desperate, down, or depressed. However, this is just transitory. Everything is, in reality, transient. Remind yourself that nothing lasts forever, no matter how bad things are right now. Every day, you have the opportunity to take small steps toward a brighter future. To a life, you don’t despise.

3. PAY ATTENTION TO THE SMALL STEPS

Instead of questioning yourself, “Why must life be so difficult?” “What small measures can I take toward a life that doesn’t suck?” you might wonder. Instead of tearing yourself down, focus on helping yourself. You sometimes have to deal with circumstances that you can’t change. Consider how you could handle things better in that circumstance. Could you modify your mind about it in some way? Can you learn mental strategies to help you cope better?

4. TAKE A BREATHE

When your life isn’t going well, depression and anxiety can set in, paralyzing you. You can’t stop thinking about how much you despise your life and how bad everything is. Drop out of your thoughts and into your body in such times. Take a few deep breaths and concentrate just on that. Take note of how your stomach grows and contracts. Feel the air passing through your nostrils. Continue for a few moments and notice how you begin to relax.

5. BE CONSCIOUS

Being conscious of your breathing is only one example. Learn about different types of mindfulness and how they can help you deal with irritation and difficulties.
