If you are a naturally honest person, the phrase “think before you speak” may not come readily to you. What does it mean to “think before you speak”? Because, while most of us are haphazard with our word choices, words have such power. They can be beneficial or harmful, and they can have a direct impact on a situation’s result, causing a positive or bad reaction in our world.

Words represent who we are through defining our identity and revealing our views and sensitivities. Our choice of words conveys our wisdom or stupidity to others who hear us. Words are the most deadly bullets that have the ability to destroy or harm someone, and the worst thing is that they do both. The trouble is that no amount of apologies will make words miraculously return to our mouths.

When you don’t think before you speak, you’re more likely to make ill-informed statements, which undermines your credibility and may even do harm to someone, even if your intentions were pure. Thinking before speaking, on the other hand, gives us the opportunity to contemplate the impact of the words we choose. When you think before you speak, you consider the words you chose carefully before you express them.

Words have more power than you may realize. We are not doomed to say the first thing that comes to mind, we can truly control our mouth. And it all starts with truly listening and comprehending before speaking during a conversation.

It is our obligation to control our tongues and accept responsibility for what comes out of our mouths. Prepare to think before you speak, to express what you mean, and to stand behind and be accountable for your statements.
