Signs You Are Using Busyness As Coping Mechanism And Ways To Slow Down

Busyness may appear to be quite harmless; after all, you’re just filling your schedule and getting things done, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Busyness, on the other hand, can take over in ways that are similar to addiction, preventing you from being present in your own life and with people around you.

Here are a few signs that prove that you are using busyness as a coping mechanism and ways to deal with it

1. You’re a social person

People can become social butterflies as a result of their busy schedules, and they may feel the constant need to socialize all the time. They may find it challenging to spend time alone or with oneself. If this sounds like you, this is a sign that probably you are using busyness as a coping mechanism.

It’s important to remind ourselves that it’s okay to be lonely. We can be aware of our feelings and allow them to exist as they are. Spending longer and longer periods of time alone and noticing how you feel can help you develop a tolerance for being alone.

2. You have a cluttered calendar

A person who is addicted to being busy may feel compelled to fill their calendar. If they don’t schedule anything or have events waiting in the wings, they may feel like they’re squandering time. When they see their schedule is entirely full, they may be the happiest. It’s critical to realize that this is a behavior you notice in yourself in order to overcome this thinking.

It’s a smart place to start by acknowledging your persistent need to fill your calendar. It’s a terrific starting step to be able to tell oneself what the busyness has to give.

3. Others have commented on how busy you appear to be

People frequently tell the busy person that they appear to be always occupied. This may appear to be a self-evident indicator, but busy people may have difficulties seeing it in themselves, necessitating the intervention of others.

If this is the situation for you, it may be beneficial to speak with your loved ones about it. Keep an open mind when it comes to what your friends and relatives are telling you. This can help you understand how your hectic schedule affects others.

4. Slowing down is challenging

You may be addicted to being busy if you have trouble taking in the details of the day, such as the flavor of your morning coffee or the smile on your coworker’s face because you feel compelled to move on to the next item.

Slowing down as much as possible is a smart next step. Take a deep breath, pause, and pay attention to what’s going on around you.

Instead of responding with a scripted response, slow down, and genuinely listen to what people are saying.

It’s necessary to take a closer look when busyness takes over our lives and we cease enjoying life.
