The Dalai Lama, the spiritual preacher and leader of Tibet holds great admiration around the world. He is the 14th spiritual leader with the Dalai Lama title and is around 83 years old.

His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso is the longest living Dalai Lama and he might be the last one.

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent struggle in liberating the Tibetans. He preached for non-violence even in times of aggression.

The Dalai Lama believes that peace does not just mean the absence of violence. If two countries point nuclear warheads at each other and peace is maintained to prevent either from shooting, then that truce is of negativity and not peace.

He regarded that only through compassion and inner peace, one can impart peace in the world. Inner peace makes a peaceful individual and that individual can in turn make a peaceful family and community and altogether a peaceful world.

Dalai Lama’s Five Peace Plan as published from his office are as follows

1. Transformation of the whole of Tibet into a zone of peace

2. Abandonment of China’s Population transfer policy which threatens the very existence of the Tibetans as a people

3. Respect for the Tibetan people’s fundamental human rights and democratic freedoms

4. Restoration and Protection of the Tibet’s natural environment and the abandonment of China’s use of Tibet for the production of nuclear weapons and dumping of nuclear waste

5. Commencement of earnest negotiations on the future status of Tibet and of relations between the Tibetan and Chinese peoples.
