Amazon as we all know is an American Multinational technology company which aims on e-commerce, digital streaming, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. In the information technology industry, Amazon is now listed in the Big Five companies in the U.S.

In the era of Coronavirus pandemic, Amazon had gone on a hiring spree and hired around 4,27,300 employees within the time frame of January 2020 to October 2020, according to the Nytimes reports.

Amazon hired employees for its Seattle headquarters and other warehouses across the globe such as Italy and India.

Its workforce is around 1.2 million around the world equivalent to the entire population of Dallas.

Although most of the workers are warehouse workers, they have also hired software engineers and hardware specialists for streaming entertainment and cloud computing which have accelerated during the pandemic.

According to the Nytimes, the hiring scale seems much larger because they have not included temporary workers recruited for holidays or the delivery drivers/contractors.

One of the labor historians stated that Amazon has been undergoing rapid employment growth which no other company in America has done before.

This Amazon hiring is considered as a boon to the workers who have been laid low by the pandemic recession. It has benefitted millions of workers when there was a soar in the unemployment levels with other businesses suffering the loss.

In times like this, a job offering a good pay and comprehensive health care benefits for day one is much more meaningful. Amazon has made an investment of more than $800 million on Covid-19 safety measures and has increased the sick pay for its employees.
