The most common habit of successful people is waking up early. Let us get to know why waking up early is beneficial, because when you know the benefits it becomes really easy to develop and stick to that habit. Early morning is the time of least distraction, our mind is also the calmest making it the time of absolute focus and productivity. The environment is undisturbed and pure which make it right time to practice yoga, meditate or exercise. There are so many influential and successful people who believe in benefits of waking up early.

We need some conerete and practical steps that will help us wake up early in morning daily. First and the most important step is to sleep early, as it is rightly said early to bed, early to rise. But going to sleep early is more challenging than waking up early. But if you are able to do so half of your job is done, as it is more easy to wake up at 6am when you go to sleep at 10pm rather than 12pm.

Melatonin is a hormone that governs our sleep. Higher melatonin allows us to sleep faster and more deeply. Do you know ? Melatonin level start to rise after sunset, this is your body’s signal that it is now looking for rest ; studies have shown, that it is easy to sleep within 10pm – 11pm when melatonin level is high rather than the time after that as melatonin level start to decrease. Avoid using gadgets while you are trying to sleep as they may affect the level of melatonin. The idea is to keep your mind calm, try reading a light book, or try to meditate fee minutes before going to sleep.

Second thing is to look after your diet. Avoid eating heavy meal after 5pm. Make sure you keep your dinner light. Even if you sleep on time, having heavy dinner can reduce your chances of waking early as lot of your energy is consumed in process of digesting heavy food. There are lots of foods which actually helps in sleeping better and faster, take warm cow milk 30 minutes before sleep tops the list. You can also add sleep promoting herbs like Ashwagandha, Saffron, Nutmeg, Turmeric or Cinnamon to the milk, to enhance the affect as per your liking. Avoid stimulating drink such as tea and coffee after sunset as they can disturb your sleep cycle.

Next step is to prepare your mind to wake up early. Conciously or unconsciously keep on reminding yourself the time you want to wake up at. Give yourself a good reason to wake up early a goal which you want to achieve.

Now that you have followed all the step right from sleeping early having light dinner, to setting up a goal which will motivate you to rise early, the task of getting up early won’t be easy. Sleep is addictive and we always strive for getting an extra 10 minutes of it. Try to give up on this extra 10 minutes. The first 10 minutes upon waking up are most difficult. Do not hit the snooze button. Somehow conquer the first 10 minutes and the morning will be your. The Golden Rule over here is, The longer you do it the easier it gets.
