In the past ten years, we have made enormous, even historic, progress toward recognizing connections in all their varied forms. There is now more media coverage of LGBTQ couples than ever before, gay marriage is legal, and dating apps now provide alternatives for open or non-monogamous partnerships. The acceptance of older women who date younger men, despite the fact that it’s an increasing trend, still has a long way to go.

Age-difference relationships: still frowned upon?

Older Women, Younger Men: New Options for Love and Romance is a book on age-gap dating written by relationship specialist and best-selling author Susan Winter. She remembers the harsh criticism (and even hate mail) she faced when dating a man who was 16 years her younger back in the 1990s. Winter claims that “my boyfriend’s mom encouraged others in my neighborhood to declare I was a burden to society. The cashiers at my neighborhood grocery shop told me that I was a witch, thus I was unable to purchase eggs or food there.”

Age-gap relationships are still frowned upon more than 20 years later. Women are frequently denied access to their full potential, according to Winter. “We’ve come so far, yet there is still so much more to do. We are not there till it is not even a topic of conversation or something we notice.”

Many times, those who condemn older women for dating younger men ignore the fact that some younger men really prefer to date older women. Men are still drawn to older women, and the stereotype of “the elder seductress” has been around for thousands of years.

You just have more chances to discover love when there is no age restriction on dating.

No matter your age, it’s important to agree on the direction of your relationship with your spouse. Values, such as whether or not you want to be married or remarry, or want to have children, aren’t necessarily aligned when there are significant age disparities.
