1. SUPER 30

The film Super 30 is based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar and his educational programme of the same name. Every year, the initiative chooses 30 children from low-income families to receive free coaching for JEE and India’s most prestigious university, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The selected students are given not only free coaching but also lodging and meals over the term of the programme. 2. M.S. DHONI: THE UNTOLD STORY

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, directed by Neeraj Pandey, follows the spectacular rise of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian national cricket team, in the world of cricket. Sushant Singh Rajput has essentially told Dhoni’s entire life story in visually breathtaking frames. The film’s concept was devised by Dhoni’s manager in 2011, but production began in 2014, and the film was released in 2016. Dhoni was brought on board as a consultant for the film.

3. PAD MAN

Pad Man stars Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte, and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and is directed by R Balki. It tells the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the true Pad Man of India. He is a Tamil Nadu-based social entrepreneur who dropped out of school and built a business from the ground up to provide low-cost sanitary pads to women across the country. This is also one of the few Bollywood films that have contributed to the de-stigmatization of menstruation in India.

4. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

This biopic of Milkha Singh, India’s Flying Sikh, was one of the year’s biggest hits, starring Farhan Akhtar. The film goes beyond the obvious and emphasizes lesser-known aspects of the great athlete’s life, thereby presenting the Indian sports icon to Gen Y. Farhan Akhtar is fantastic in his role, and Milkha Singh has sold the film’s rights for Rs 1. A portion of the revenues, however, is donated to the Milkha Singh Charitable Trust.
