Charlie Chaplin was born into a poor family in London in 1889. His father abandoned him when he was a child, and his mother had no means of support. They endured numerous difficulties throughout their lives. His mother passed away later in life as a result of mental illness. Chaplin participated in theatre performances during this time, developing his humorous skills as well as his step-dancing skills. He eventually made his way to Hollywood.

7. Chris Gardener

In 2006, Will Smith starred in the film The Pursuit of Happiness. Gardener authored his biography in order to gain understanding of his previous life which caused him a great deal of suffering. Gardener, who was born in 1954, had a difficult childhood. Gardener had a tumultuous life, spending time in and out of foster care.
