Perfectionism has the potential to infiltrate every aspect of our life, leaving us fatigued, depleted, and defeated. When is it appropriate to say “enough is enough” or “good enough is good enough”? We aren’t entirely to blame. We live in a world where ideas of perfection dominate us, causing us to set unreasonable goals for ourselves.

We become so consumed with getting things “perfect” in our quest to be loved and appreciated for who we are. We put in more effort and get more results, but more is never enough. There’s nothing wrong with working hard to attain your life’s objectives, but there comes a point where overachievement takes over and you lose yourself in the process.

Even the greatest minds can be demotivated by perfection. Being perfect isn’t necessary for greatness. Making major errors and learning from them is all greatness and success are about.

There’s nothing wrong with working on yourself, but the truth is that none of us are perfect, and none of us can hope to be. While we may strive for mastery, greatness, and improvement and enjoy the challenge, focusing on perfection can only lead to self-disgust and dissatisfaction. Perfectionism is a deflator of self-esteem. It feeds your inner critic, who keeps telling you that you’re not good enough.

When you set the bar too high, your stress level skyrockets and your thoughts get constrained. Your body and mind tighten, preventing oxygenated blood from flowing freely to keep you calm. Stress almost never improves your performance.

Perfection has the ability to cause havoc in every aspect of your life. When you’re always unsatisfied with everything you accomplish, it’s difficult to be happy in life. We are trapped if we are not moving forward in life, and many procrastinators are familiar with this state.

Stop attempting to be flawless; it may be robbing you of your happiness. Happiness is something that may be chosen. You have the ability to control how you feel and whether or not you believe it. Being our flawed and amazing selves is the only thing we can truly hope to be excellent at.
